Parenting is by far one of the largest responsibilities in life. Then when you have a child with special needs, that responsibility becomes far greater. All parents have to ensure their child appropriately meets the developmental milestones. However, parents of a child with special needs have the additional burden of ensuring their child in spite of their disability meet the same developmental milestones. The school has multiple professionals making decisions for your child. You may feel you can handle discussing your child’s education on your own. However, you have no idea what you don’t know. Believe it or not, far too often the school staff doesn’t know the school’s obligation to students with a disability. Even if they do know, will they do the right thing for your child or protect their job with their silence.
